HERE IT IS!!! Finally, after 20 months, our website cedunaonline.com.au has become what it was always designed to be … a single search tool that allows locals & visitors to search Ceduna from anywhere in one easy, convenient place 24/7.
I have worked through the night, yet again, to clean up the search results & today I’m fairly excited as you can imagine. It’s an astonishing amount of hours & a vision that’s come to fruition for me today & I don’t think anything can swipe the smile off my face!
Now in one click onto our website homepage you will find a search bar. This search looks so very simple but … I can’t tell you what it takes on the back end to make it look & work so simple on the front end & unlike the real Google, Google Ceduna (haha) doesn’t have the best & brightest coming to work each morning in their droves. So as you can imagine it’s been a challenging 20 months to say the least as this is well over & above the labour of other websites that I have made over the past 10 years!
Before you can have a search function you must first have something to search, this is what has taken the majority of the time to complete. I don’t know of any other town who has a search like this one. It’s not just a searching of businesses or services but right down to items in many cases & where possible. If a visitor to town felt like a Fanta at 1am they can search Fanta & choose from the list of businesses who sell Fanta & find who is open 24 hours. To have this level of result has meant not just listing businesses, but taking photos of everything & going home & sitting there typing everything that I could see in each photo in for that business. Now you can start to see where a lot of the time has gone.
The directory & all work involved has been done free of charge however, in the new financial year there will be a small annual charge to list in the directory, well within everyone’s budget, to help me cover the cost associated with providing this community resource. I’m sure everyone will understand the importance of this tool & its potential to promote & assist the shop local effort within Ceduna. I have made every effort to ensure that everything that’s available locally has been invited to list & if I have missed anyone please do let me know. It’s the best it can be with all of Ceduna searchable from one place & if a business is not listed then they cannot be offered as a result for searchers.
There will always be more work to do, but now I will allow a day each week to do that & this is where you (the searcher) can help make it the tool you love to use. If you have any issues or identify a search that doesn’t perform as it should please let me know.

because one thing I cannot do is know every search term that people might use to try & find something & by sending through anything you feel may help, I can make it that much better the following week when I sit down to try & address these suggestions on the site.
Everything else on the site remains – you can still search via paths using the buttons just by clicking on ‘Directory’ in the navigation panel at the top of the page to begin. There are many different ways to search the site which are all still right where they have always been.
If you know who you’re after you can click on the letter that their business name begins with in the QUICK NAME SEARCH panel. Just to name a couple of our easy ways to search & find what you’re looking for quickly.
Essentially that’s what we are – a ‘quick search tool’ online.
Next I will distribute posters with a QR code where visitors to town can hold their phone up to the poster to scan the code, this will automatically load the sites search page on their phone & they can search away.
OH! Did I mention we are about to click over 23,000 hits on the directory? 🙂
Click through to the cedunaonline.com.au website & try it out for yourself. And if you’re interested in joining the local businesses who are advertising on the website please do contact us as we sure would appreciate your support.
This is a blog. I am not a professional writer. These are my observations. Please feel free to suggest edits, offer contributions or contact about blogging your own local interest.
