As you may or may not know I have opened a new Instagram account called Next Door to The Nullarbor which is connected to the Facebook page of the same name. (see Facebook page)
For this I have created the hashtags #nextdoortothenullarbor , #nullarborandneighbours & #nullarborneighbours. And although it’s all brand new, it’s all based around boosting Ceduna via the promotion of The Nullarbor Plain.
Because The Nullarbor is known globally!
Unlike the terms we use, West Coast, Far West Coast etc. The Nullarbor is known around the world & cannot be mistaken. The terms we use mean very little, and worse than this they actually cause confusion with Western Australia & such. That is why I’ve opted to base everything on The Nullarbor, & lucky for us, if you’re crossing The Nullarbor then you’re probably going to visit us also.
… so that’s why The Nullarbor.
The other, & possibly more unique part of this concept is that the area I’m considering as being ‘Next Door to The Nullarbor’ is from Perth to Mount Gambier, Coober Pedy to Kangaroo Island – basically all of South Australia & the lower half of Western Australia.
Do we consider this whole area as being ‘next door’? No! But if you’re coming halfway around the world to see beautiful parts of WA or SA then what’s the harm in prepromoting that you’re so close to The Nullarbor & The Great Australian Bight that you really should consider stretching your visit to include these if you weren’t already.
Basically, here’s a rectangle of planet as far down as you can visit without going to Antarctica. Here’s beautiful photos of spectacular locations within this region, oh & right in the middle, central & connecting the West & South is The Nullarbor, which includes Ceduna & surrounds.
Am I moving on because I’m finished building Ceduna Online?
Not by a looong shot!! And I’m not going to get too far ahead of myself & say too much about where the finish line might be just yet but, suffice to say; we’re about supporting local business & although I don’t subscribe to it all being about tourism at any cost, it is foolish not to view it as a major proportion of what to put effort toward.
Things could move quicker but I am finding it very hard on basically no funding. I don’t know how to go about funding, I don’t have time to apply – nor know how to. I get handballed when I ring organizations who are meant to assist as they think it’s all a great idea but it’s so unique that it doesn’t fit into an ‘area’ of funding apparently. So this all holds me back considerably. Additionally, unlike the city, the uses & benefits of social media marketing (how I do raise funds) is still in the education stage in many cases with many businesses not yet seeing where they fit or can benefit from coming onboard. As always this will be a gradual change & will never really become on par with the city.
I hope local businesses continue to support & come onboard, for our advertising & to support & help fund the effort that is being made with these initiatives & thanks to those who have been onboard since the beginning – I couldn’t do anything without you!
Another way in which you can help is …
Ceduna Online & Next Door to The Nullarbor have our own souvenir line now – jump in & find unique fishing, surfing, travel gifts etc. & help support our efforts, most of which are undertaken with volunteered time & self-funding.
Thanks in advance & thank you for continuing to support Ceduna Online.
