WCS. 21 Aug 1957. Bookabie. On Monday the newly built school at Bookabie was opened by Mrs V H Brooks of Penong. Mrs Brooks, who was welcomed by Mr L J Dunn, chairman of the school committee, was one of the earliest students at the school. Mr G P Mahar who attended the school 62 years ago was also present. A children s sports meeting was held and afternoon tea was provided. A picture programme was held in the Bookabie Hall at night, Messrs R G Law and G M Mahar showing films. Mr Mahar showed a series of his recent visit to New Zealand. On Tuesday Mr Law and Mr Dunn took the Bookabie school children on a trip to Euria Rockhole and thence to Chunding Swamps. While the children were on the tour they all spoke with the operator of the Ceduna Radio Base over Mr Law s wireless transmitter receiver. A combined sports meeting was held at Fowlers Bay on Thursday afternoon for the Bookabie, Coorabie and Fowlers Bay children and fancy dress frolic took place in the Fowlers Bay Hall at night. Prizes won at the frolic were presented to the winners by Mr M G Warmington, chairman of Fowlers Bay school committee … winners were: most humorous girl Jennifer Beattie, boy Don Law 1, Don Stewart 2; best dressed girl Yvonne Murka 1, Gloria Grantham 2; best dressed boy Don Thompson 1, Peter Riddle 2; preschool boy Neil Fox 1, G Hardy 2; original boy Leon Dunn, original girl J Scott; best pair Jill Dunn and Maurice Wheadon 1, Sharon Hardy and Len Hardy 2.
